Re: climate control
Here's another climate control gremlin for you.
Symptom:
Put it on Auto/Lo. Get cold air out of the center vents for a few
seconds then they close again. Switch to Econ and get a brief
blast of cold air (until the evaporator warms up).
Diagnosis on my car:
The bracket that holds the vacuum motor which drives the fresh air/
recirculation flaps broke. The hose feeding the vacuum motor came
off and was lying in the bottom of the evaporator housing...
When selecting Auto/Lo, the controller opened the center vents
and the recirc door. I guess there was enough vacuum in the
resevoir to open the center vents for a little while .
Fix:
(Temporary.) Disconnect the vacuum line to the offending vacuum motor
and cap the Y-connection. At least the center vents stay open,
even though I'm now fresh air only.
(Long Term.) There is a repair kit!!! A metal braket for the vacuum
motor. Thanks to Scott Mockry for this information. Part # is
200 271 200 and Linda has (had) one. We'll see how this works...
