Re: Brake Pad Wear Warning on Autocheck - A100
The warning light is triggered when the connection between the two
sensor wires is broken. This usually happens when the wire embedded in the
brake pad wears through, but can also result from a broken external wire or
bad connection. If the sensor wires are not routed correctly, they can rub
on the wheel and wear through.
You problem sounds like a bad connector. When you replace the pads, you
pull apart the connector and the reseat it, re-establishing contact. Over
time it loses contact, and the warning light comes on.
Try cleaning the sensor connectors with contact cleaner. A contact
enhancer (i.e. Stabilant 22) would ensure a good electrical connection. I
seal these connectors with silicone lube; it keeps out water and dirt and
makes it easy to get them apart.
You can bypass the warning system by jumpering the pins on the
connector.
