RE: camshaft bearings
The camshaft bearings are an integral part of the head with the lower 1/2
being part of the casting while the upper 1/2, or bearing cap, is obviously
a separable component to allow installation of the camshaft. If you're
asking whether the bearing cap should be moved with the cam from head to
head the answer is absolutely no. The bearings are line bored with the caps
installed on the head and are therefore matched sets and can not be
interchanged. They are numbered and must be reinstalled in the same
sequence and in the same orientation. The bore is drilled slightly off
center so if you rotate the caps 180 degrees you will not only snap the cap
when you torque it down but also damage the camshaft. For the above reasons
new bearings are not available, only new heads.
