Lasers, Caddy IR
<>
<>
A recent issue of AutoWeek reports that Caddy and Raytheon are working on
bringing this technology to the street. It's IR based and, according to Kevin
Wilson of AutoWeek, works very well in the prototype stage. They are now
working to get the cost factors in line.
This technology is based on heat sensing, warmer stuff shows up as brighter.
A quote from the article: "Cadillac claims that, after getting used to it, a
driver uses Night Vision much as he would a rearview mirror, referring to it
briefly when necessary. That seems credible from our brief experience, during
which we were able to see farther than with highbeams."
No add-on lights (such as in the Korean era for night-sniper use) appear to
be necessary.
Later.
