My experience in using detectors in Europe has been mixed. Some countries
use radar guns (Hungary, Poland) which mine picked up fairly well. Other
places it did not seem to be able to sense what was going on, especially the
Western European countries such as Germany and Holland.
With respect to use of radar detectors, the rule over there is that if it is
not specifically forbidden (and they are not), then it is permitted. I've
carried mine every trip. Always in carry on baggage, and never been stopped
or questioned.
Later.

The REOs here in Holland use some of the same bands as in the US, but in
general you need a Holland-specific detector to have it work perfectly.
I saw a test of some imported detectors in a magazine some time ago (even
did an exerpt for the list, I think) and none of them worked properly.
The only one that actually worked as advertised was the Stinger-
re-engineered for Holland specifically. $500-600, if I recall correctly.
