Re: 4k Rear Speakers
I know both sets of my 4kq rear speakers (86 and 87) have grilles that
screw onto the speakers, so you simply unscrew (counterclockwise). I don't
remember if the speaker then pulls out, or if you have to get the rear deck
lid out of the way. If so, you then need to get into the trunk and pull the
rear seat back releases and get it out of the way, pull the 3rd brake light
wiring out of the way, then get the damn shelf out of the way (or just
stick your hand under).
Good luck. I replaced mine with 6.5 Orion separates, with the crossovers
taped to the gas tank. Serious improvement.

The rear speakers of the 4k have the grills screwed onto them. So,
1) take a thing flat blade screwdriver and jam in under the grill and hold
on tight.
2) Then take the grill by hand and spin it counter-clockwise (I think...)
3) It should unthread and the bottom of the speaker falls down 4) Unplug
the lower speaker housing and tilt sideways and pull in through the hole.
Look ma... now I can get real speakers in here (albeit small ones)
