Re: 'Mothers' in Boston area

You should be able to get Mothers Car Care stuff at pretty much any
kind of auto parts store. Check at every parts store around you. Its
really good stuff, the only thing I use besides Meguires. I work as a
detailer in case you're wondering.

If you do to the 3 steps you'll get a much better job, it works
wonderfully.

First, get their cleaner, try to get one with little or no grit. Its
always better to start with a fine grit and then go to a rougher one
if you really need it.

Now, they have sealer/glaze as their second coat but I buy some good
polish and do this as the 2nd step. So try to find some good polish,
and do this as the 2nd step.

Then use mothers sealer/glaze. I know its an extra step but you'll
only have to do it maybe twice a year. And its worth it with the
extra shine. I like to leave it on for like 10 minutes then rub it
off.

Finally use some good, pure carnuba wax paste. Dont get the
cleaner/wax, just get pure carnuba wax paste. I use Meguires, its
like 8 bucks but its good stuff and it lasts a long time. The
insructions will say to leave it on til it hazes but I usually wipe it
off right away, that way you wont have to rub real hard which could
make more scratches.

If you really care about your car and want to do it right it'll take a
few hours, depending on if you're doing it by hand or with a buffer.
The first time I did it I did it all by hand on my brothers 85 nissan
200 sx. His car was black and it looked soooo good when it was done.
You could really really tell the difference than the old wash and wax
way.

When you're done, go around with the polish and look real closely at
the car from different angles. If you see any imperfections or
scratches you can go over them again with the polish by hand. It
should take em out if they arent that bad. Also go around and look in
the door jams, or where 2 body panels come together and look for white
compound. If you see any, which you will wipe it off. Nothing looks
worse than a nice freshly detailed car than one with leftover compound
in the cracks.

Remember to use nothing but 100% cotton towels, and turn them
frequently to keep from getting them dirty. I have a pile of towels
just for my car, and right after I'm done detailing the car I throw
them all in the wash with lots of fabric softener.

It will take you a while but it will be worth it once you see how good
your car looks after. And you will only have to do the whole process
like 2 times a year. I usually take the car for a drive when I'm done
to blow all the loose compound off of it.

Now, if you want it to look better get separate stuff to go over all
the other exterior stuff. Good wheel cleaner made specially for your
type of wheel, if you have black trim get some good exterior black
trim stuff, and so on. You'll definately be happy with the results.
Good luck...
