RE: Springs for the 4kq

Dennis,
I offered to sell a lister a pair of 84' springs. The problem is
that I want to much for them because they are expensive to get. I love
them and run them on my quattros. They are 84' springs though so the
rear tends to sag a bit as with the newer springs. To get rid of sag
you have to go with new springs from factory which are ONLY available in
the 85-87 spring rates since they update all 84's to these springs now.
This will cure sagging but not any improvement in ride or handline.
FOr cheaper you can go aftermarket with H&R or Eibach for about $260 for
4 springs, and Intrax with slightly cheaper ones I think. Mayber less
or more depending on where you look. This gives the car a better
looking stance with the whole car dropped about 1 inch or a little more
and about 1.5 - 2" with the intrax springs. H&R gives level stance with
front MAYBE a Tad higher as front and rear drop is the same. The Eibach
drops front 1/4 " more than rear I think so it should sit a TAD lower in
the front. These are nice springs for an everyday driver and is what I
would get if I didn't get coilovers or Stock 84' springs. Intrax will
drop car much more in front than in back, very low aggressive stance,
looks mean but too low for where I live. All 3 of abouve improve
handling and are about as stiff as the 84' springs. Eibach is softer
down the road than the other options but are progressive rate springs.
Intrax and H&R I believe are Linear rate springs and ride about like an
84' spring. Stiffer than stock but with 15" wheels, Boge TG shocks and
84' springs or Intrax springs, I dont think it is anything harsh, just
firm. Railroad tracks are a little jarring if they are bad but overall
I think it rides much better over most larger bumpsth no wallowing and a
firm controled movement over the bumps.
Just remember that 84' springs will sag a little in the rear. I
have a set lying around that I was going to put on my new silver 85' 4kq
to firm it up a bit (Actually these are at the junk yard still) but for
the right price I will go pull them and send them off. since I
desperately need a new clutch to even drive anywhere)
Think over what you want and if you want the 84' springs then make
me an offer. If it is worth my time to pull them and send them to you,
I will be happy to. THe yard want $15 per spring for them so let me
know what you think. I love the 84' springs but mainly because I cant
have a car that is lowered where I live. At stock height if I have any
weight in the back, I rub my 2.5" exhaust and Borla Muffler going up my
Girlfriends Driveway (Creed Bed) Even 4x4s usually go slow up this but
I ahve to dodge rocks to keep from bottoming. THe R in BORLA is dented
though from when I miss :)
Sorry, I am babbling, anyhow, hope that helps you in your decision.
Please let me know either way you decide and feel free to write if you
have any more questions. L8R
