Subject: Climate Control Head

As you more than likely remember I've got a '91, 90q20v. I took her by the
dealer this morning to have the climate control system looked at. The only
problem it has is that hot air isn't coming out of the center dash vents while
on "bi-level". They have tested the system and reported to me the climate
control "head" the thing with the buttons/LED read out is not sending a signal
to the flap control motor.

I think your system is similar to that in my '91 200q. First thing to do is
read the owner's manual. On my car, cooled air (A/C) comes out the center
vents; heated air comes out the bottom and upper vents, with a slight amount
mixed into the center vents. So, in the winter, it doesn't come blowing out
hard from the center vents like it does in the summer. That's how its
designed, according to the owner's manual. Make sure you aren't having the
dealer fix something that's a feature, not a bug... they're usually glad to
take your money.
You can look at the error codes produced by the climate control head yourself,
without the dealer helping. See the 20-valve pages for the procedure, at
