Thanks to everyone for suggestions.

It was the hard wired fuel pump.

New fuel pump relay fixed everything.
It looks like previous owner installed the wrong relay and/or was too cheap to
get the proper one.

Cheap is the word since I found what looks like 120k mile COPPER spark plugs
doing the igniting.
No wonder the car would not run properly.
Run a lot smoother but would not pick up RPM.
I also discovered the frequancy valve not working.
That would also explain why it's running like crap.
Are they expensive from the dealer, and how often do they fail?
