At the risk of more WoB - but it's not MIME or binary:

National Provincial Bank and Westminster Bank merged into National
Westminster.

Then Barclays Bank and Martins Bank 'merged'.

I asked a manager what 'our' new name would be.  He said they'd do
exactly what National Westminster had done - the first word of 'Barclays
Bank' and the second word of 'Martins Bank'.

So 'Barclays Bank' it was.
