lotsa gears.

Phil, my 1986 Audi 5000 has six gears and an upshift indicator. One of them
six gears is reverse, though . . .

Wink wink nudge nudge.

I *THINK* my upshift indicator is working properly - it does not light in
top gear at any speed - there's a lockout switch - and it does light in the
lower gears at small throttle openings when the engine is lightly loaded -
on a NA car, that means high mnifold vacuum. If you add throttle (same
gear), the light goes out.

Only practical use I've ever found for it, and that by accident, was we
were going somewhere and I was getting cross-examined about something, and
the light came on. Instant change of subject: "What's that light?"

"Well, sweetheart" (long rambling answer followed, effectively breaking
train of thought and changing the subject). This offer good one time only -
she's on to it now.

Best Regards,
