Not to mention the concentration of stresses, something masonry (_any_
masonry) is not good at. Keep them right side up, with the flared web at
the top, and put a piece of wood over the top to distribute the load over
the top. Also, carefully check them for cracks, they're cheap enough to get
new. The aperatures are properly called core holes.

They haven't been made from cinders in at least 60 years...

Finally, a masonry question.....something I can speak with some authority
on!

Mandatory Audi Content: Took Audrey to Midas today to look for an exhaust
rattle. First they mig welded the transmission exhaust hanger back to the
downpipe.....rattle still present! Finally found the little asbestos do-nut
thing just after the downpipe has a captive 3" long piece of pipe captive
in it, presumably for alignment. It has loosened internally, and was the
source of the annoying rattle at about @1600 rpm. Took them about 15
minutes to find a suitable replacement. Total time in the shop, about 35
minutes

No charge. Wow.
