Re: VW/Audi observations
Well Jon, not everybody buys cars for the same reasons. While I agree with
you that yes, a Porsche should be heard and should not sound like a Lexus,
the salesman's job is to sell the car. Just repeating that "it's a Porsche"
is not going to cut it. My friend did not get mad at the salesman for the
engine noise but for the way he reacted; the take it or leave it, I don't
care because I know the next guy will, attitude. Nobody can expect a
salesman to do anything about the sound part of a car but he could explain
that most drivers consider the sound of a Porsche engine to be music to
their ears, it is supposed to sound like that. No appologies were expected
but perhaps a bit of a dialogue and an explaination before you ask someone
to throw down 50k for a car would have been appreciated.

I think that's what the dealer was trying to tell him when he said,
"it's a Porsche." It sounds like a Porsche. It isn't supposed to
sound like a Lexus. If your friend didn't like the sound and tells the
salesman he doesn't like it, honestly, what's the salesman
supposed to do about it? Maybe it was the manner in which he
said it but you can't get too mad at him for not being able to do
anything about engine noise in the car.
