Urq leaking power steering pump

My urquattro has a leaky power steering pump.  I initially thought
it to be a poor seal on the connection with the high pressure output
hose, but replacing the aluminum sealing washers did not solve the
problem.  I currently cannot determine where the leak is coming
from, although it seems to be somewhere at the bottom rear of the
pump.

Is this some kind of common failure mode for these pumps?   Would
a rebuild fix it right up?
