The bottom end is very well documented in the microfiche - if there's
general interest I can post the Plastigage instructions.

The idea of a crank with new con rod bearing but old main bearings is
interesting - we believe that "EBD" (the ex-Audi press car that Roger
Galvin has just taken over) had the con rod shells but _not_ the
main bearing shells replaced 60,000 miles ago.  It's now starting to
growl a bit, so we might dive in there one winter weekend.
