Your fuel pump is mounted just forward of the right rear wheel.  Now you
know where to listen real close... I think humming is the sign that they
are getting a bit tired, yes.

I have a similar symptom on my 82.  My suspicions are focussed on my
rack, which has some axial play it shouldn't have - if you grab a tie
rod (hood open) and alternately lift/push down, the rack itself will
rotate a little bit.  Have to check again soon to see if it is getting
worse...  Someone else described having a similar problem, replacing the
rack, and it went away.

You need to check all the other front end junk first though (mine is all
replaced...)
