Re: tool sharing program

Sounds like a great idea.....BUT, in practice will probably be
a major headache. From personal experience, loaning tools
out is a good way to loose both the tool and a friend. Specialty
tools lend themselves to abuse, especially when they are the only
one at hand, and noboy EVER takes the blame for bending or
breaking anything..."I got it that way". A "friend" borrowed my
Mercyless Benz ball joint/kinpin tool Before it had ever been
used, and managed to somehow warp it and render it
useless (he must have used an airgun), you guessed it,
"it was like that when you gave it to me".

Who would be responsable for damage to items? The VAG1551 costs
over $1000 I think, if it gets fried by someone mistakenly hooking
it up REALLY backwards, what would be the recourse for the
members who (I'm guessing) financed the tool purchase? I
personally would love to see such a resource, but is it really
viable? I'm not posting as a detractor, but anyone involved in
this should have a plan to deal with possible scenarios.

BCNU,
