Thanks, Igor, for E-brake tip!
Igor;
Thanks for the timely post on freeing up the e-brake mechanism on the
rear calipers. I rebuilt my e-brakes yesterday and your repair tip was the
icing on the cake. I am now comfortable using my e-brakes for the first time
in years (they would always go on, but you had to get under the car to get
them off!).
As you stated in your post, after removing the spring and stop bolt, the
arms popped out about 10 mm. I cleaned the rust off the shafts with fine
emery cloth and lubed them well with motorcycle chain lube, since I know
this stuff is relatively waterproof and stays where you put it. Once lubed
and freed up, they do indeed return under their own power without the
external spring. I replaced the right side cable, and the whole system works
just like new!
Thanks again!
