Well, near the front of the door panel where you'll want to put it, there
is the window regulator down low and a bunch of other things in the way --
but it is possible. My 87 4kq has MB Quart 6.5" woofers that take up, so
the manufacturer says, 2.36" in mounting depth. Fit was _TIGHT_. I'd get
the speakers from somewhere local and tell them you'll try the fit but not
install them (screw them down, etc.) and you want to bring 'em back if
they don't fit. I told the local store that and the guys said no problem.
2.5" could be the limit there, depending on where you cut a hole.
