What is
>the proper way to remove the panel to gain access to the window
regulator?

Sure. First, remove the thing for locking door (on top or panel)
then remove two large screw from the Arm Rest (look on the underside)
then pop a plastic panel out from inside the inner door handle to reveal
a small screw. Remove screw and remove plastic part. YOu can leave the
handle in place as it is connected to metal door frame. Now, I belive
you are ready to pull the panel off. USe a LARGE flat blade screw
driver to carefully pry off each plastic clip that holds it in.
Basically just pull it out but you dont want to bent door panel so
prying right by the clips is best. THere are about 10 of them around
the sides and bottom of panel
Front panels are same with addition of the triangular platsic piece
at the front by the mirror. Remove it and screw under it that holds up
panel. AND romove the 6? screws that hold the door pocket in. One of
them is hidden. It is burried in the carpet where the divider for the 2
pockets is about half way up. Just poke around untill you feel a
deprssion and push. THen engage screw and loosen.

But

I replace entire mirror with no spices. You have to remove door
panel but the connections are in the car just inside where the wires
from door enter car. I just pulled old unit out and replaced with new
and fed wires into car and plugged into sockets.

    Hope that helps.
