Re: New lister - 89 200TQW questions

That is a good price for that car. 200 wagons are pretty rare
beasts. The timming belt job will cost about $300-$400 to be done
right. It may vary depending on where you look. But, make sure you
not only replace the t-belt, but also the idler pulley, and that
bearing in there! Very imporatnt! You may also want to have all the
V-belts done at this time. May seem expensive, but put it on Visa as
it will save you movey down the road.

Find a reputable mechanic! Not necessaraly the dealer, but it all
else fails, the dealer does usually offer decent service and uses high
quality (factory OEM replacement) parts....but at a premium. Finding a
good, fairly priced mechanic can be a life-saver.

About the CV joint. You can just take it to a chain place like CV
Pros and they will fix them for a lot cheaper than anyplace else!!!!
And, you'll have your car in and out of there fast.

Of course, it is better to use a Lubro part for the CV, but I don't
think it makes that big of a difference and most of the CV replacement
specialists offer pretty good warranties on thier work. Won't cost you
too much either.

Good luck with the Quattro purchase. You can always use the 90,000
mile service as a bargaining tool on the price! BTDT.
