neither statement is true of the units I am working with.  They open
until a timer shuts them down (not current change from straining motor),
and they are wired in parallel with the output of the switch (while also
supplying it's input).  this is not to say that other Audis do it
another way.

exactly.  I don't want to make it harder to adjust the window up or down
a little bit, I just want to add the quick touch and ignore feature for
full open and full close.

And to think my car came with manual windows in the first place...

That is definitely looming as a possibility.  german cars preferred, but
hey, if a Caddy does it, I'll take it.

Where the switches die a predictable crud and water induced death!

But think of the massive public acclaim were you achieve this!  What an
excellent how-to that would make, how to scrounge a junked relay, modify
it, and install it, with diagrams of all necessary wiring changes!
