Re: Fuel pump questions

Hi Aleksander;

    I have the same problem with my new Bosch pump. It started making noise
after two weeks. My new pump is made in the Czech Republic - I'll bet yours
is too. One of our local Audi mechanics emigrated from the Czech Republic
two years ago. His comment on my new pump was: " I know my countrymen. If
you think your old pump was noisy, wait till you hear your new one."
Unfortunately, it looks like he had a point. My old pump (which lasted 100K)
was made in France.
    My pump is louder in cold weather and the noise also varies in pitch. A
Bosch rep was at N&D Imparts when I was picking up the new pump and I
mentioned the rather common failures of these pumps on Audis. He seemed
surprised and said the pumps were rated for 6000 hours. I don't think many
listers are getting that kind of life - I figure mine are lasting about 1500
hours.
    I wouldn't count on it getting quieter and I am living with mine. It
sort of gives the car personality!
