V8 Codes and troubles

 I have a 90 V8 and wanted to know what the procedure was for getting
the fault codes. I assume i need to use a test light(no engine light?), but
have no idea where the connector is? I know there is a page which has the
procedure for the 20v? but dont know if the same aplies to the v8?(what was
that page again)
 I also have a problem which i am trying to diagnose(why i wanted to
pull the codes). When accelerating under partial throttle the engine rpms dont
go up smoothly, they go up 500 rpm at a time? It has a rythm to it. Goes up 500
stops for a sec. goes up another 500 etc. If i floor the car it goes away and
accelerates normally, could this be the throttle switch not having a good mid
position? Any thoughts would be helpful.
