Amen to that.
The weekend continued with Charles Adair bringing up the metering head
that he had rebuilt by KMI and us fitting it to his MB ur-quattro. Ran
almost first time - resetting to spec had left us about 2/3rds of a turn
out on the CO adjustment. Not bad for beginners.
Then it was over to Roger's for the removal of his exhaust manifold. We
had to lift the head out separately because the wastegate to downpipe
bolt on the engine side refused all our blandishments. One of the turbo
nuts was also a trifle stubborn. Once the head was on the bench, we
had all ten valves out in less than a minute each - Sykes Pikavant make
a _mean_ valve spring compressor. Main amusement of the day was Roger
carefully lining up all the valvegear by cylinder on top of the washing
machine - and it hitting the 'spin' cycle.
Quite surprised to find a one-piece manifold on a 1989 200TQ - I thought
they were all two-piece. Well, this one was - but it wasn't supposed
to be. BIG crack on the inboard through pipe on #4. Broke three studs.
I really must find a way to get the cam gear bolt off more neatly.
