Thanks and some progress--'88 90Q
Hello, all!
First, I wanted to say "Thanks!" for all the help I received regarding the
radio and other problems with my newly-acquired '88 Quattro 90. I belong
to several mail lists, three of them car-related, and I can say that this
is by far the most helpful of the lot! I appreciate it, and look forward
to the time when I can contribute something.
Now, for the progress I've made:
1- I replaced the factory radio with a cheap new Kenwood unit. It works,
but it needs help from an amplifier and EQ, which I plan to give it this
weekend. I haven't given up on the factory radio, merely dismissed it for
now. I needed to replace the one I burnt up anyway, since it belonged to
another car.
I haven't yet discovered why the antenna lead carries voltage, but that's
in the works for this weekend, too. And, BTW, it *is* the (rear) antenna
lead that's hot. <G>
2- Replaced the "brown" oil pressure sensor, with no change; the alarm
still goes off at about 3000 RPM. I have a new "white" sensor, and will
replace it today.
Another question: If the new oil pressure sensors don't cure the problem,
what should my next step be? A pressure test of the oiling system?
I have a new problem, as well--The blasted car won't shut off! I called
the Audi dealer in Charleston, fifty miles away, and was told they had one
is stock, along with the pressure switch I mentioned above. When I got
there, they tried to give me the wrong pressure switch, and informed me
that the ignition switch was not, in fact, in stock! After driving fifty
miles in the rain, I was rather steamed, needless to say. I did order the
ignition switch, though.
On the topic of things that work with keys, my doors won't lock from the
outside. Any ideas why? They function perfectly from inside the car.
I know, I know, I need a Bentley! I've used them before (I'm also working
on an '81 VW Scirocco, one of the world's best cars IMHO.) and I know
they're invaluable for this kind of activity. I've blown my budget for
now, though.
Again, folks, thank you!
