This thread sounds like it is saying that a solid (frozen liquid) stays at
it's freezing point even after its surroundings drop considerably below
that temperature for an extended interval.

That would mean that a solid like iron would stay at its melting (and
freezing) point of 1,535 degrees Celsius after it solidified from its
molten state, regardless of how long it sat in a room at 21 degrees Celsius
(near room temperature).  

Since most cast iron objects were once molten before being cast, one has
only to touch an example of cast iron technology to evaluate the truth of
that assertion. That would mean that all the cast iron engine blocks
sitting around in parked cars are about 1,500 degrees above room temperature.

No wonder my car uses so much oil.
And why did I have that freeze plug heater put in my engine block?
