RE: ABS Problem

Congrats on the purchase Greg!

AFAIK there is no connection between the steering and the ABS in your car.
About the only connection I can think of is that perhaps the cable to one of
the front wheel ABS sensors was damaged when the rack was replaced.

There are a couple of simple problems that can cause the ABS system to shut
off and give you the constant on light. One of them is a blown fuse and the
other is a bad connection to the alternator field coils (believe it or
not!). I've heard others have had other rather simple problems ... perhaps
they will chime in here as well (bad ABS control switch?). Far and away the
most common problem is having one or more wheel sensor misadjusted ... but
this fault causes the ABS-off light to come on after the car is moved. It
sounds as though your problem is the same as the one I dealt with ... as
soon as you start the car the ABS off light is on. I checked the couple of
easy things and found that they were OK. I checked the resistance from the
wheel sensors per Bentley and they were OK. I pulled the ABS controller
from my other car and put it in ... problem fixed. The controller is under
the rear seat on the drivers side.

My recommendation to you is to get a copy of the Bentley and follow the
instructions there. If the simple things don't pan out, try another ABS
control module. It is fairly easy thing to do ... and likely to be much
cheaper than having a dealer do it. I really doubt they'd want to give you
anything other than a brand new control module ...
