Noisy Fan and Non-working temp gauge on just purchased 100 CS
To: rpf
Rui,
I don't remember seeing a reply to this posting, so here's my take on it.
The noisy fan. Sounds like a cricket in your car doesn't it? I seem to
recall that mine also did that for about a 2 week span when I first bought
it, but I haven't heard it since. When I asked around about this problem,
the response seemed to be that the effort to get to the fan was too great
to justify. Something about taking the dash all apart because the fan was
deep, D E E P inside there.
The non-functioning temp gauge. I noticed about a year after owning my car
that my temp gauge was narcoleptic. It would work, fall asleep for a bit,
then wake up again. The fix is a new multi-function sensor. I had mine
replaced at an independent mechanic; I seem to recall that it was an $80
part and a half hour labor at $50/hr. The non-functioning temp gauge is
actually a bit more serious than just a lack of information, the sensor
feeds info to other sensors and determines some of the engine parameters.
Get it fixed, your car will thank you.

Hi.
I finally picked up the Audi which I bought at an Auction last Tuesday.
I discovered on the way home that the temp gauge does not work, and that
the
ventilation fan sounds like a loud cricket for most of the time which as
you
can imagine is very annoying. Other than that the car runs well, the
suspension fells solid, and the brakes are smooth and powerful.
Has anyone had any problems like the one my car has? If so what kind of
solutions are suggested?
TIA
Rui.
