Well, the heat treating is assumed by me. This is based on the
caution message in the Bentley's: "Do not attempt to straighten
or weld suspension strut, wheel bearing housing, control arm, or
subframe." Also because these parts seem to me to be harder
than mild steel you would get at the metal yard.

Yeah, I've welded the strut housing too. Cut the threaded
part off, took out a section, and welded the threaded part lower,
so that shorter Scirocco struts can be used. Pic on my webpage.
I don't use those housings tho'. Have stock housings with Bilstein
Sports now.
