Oil Leak in footwell

I've got an older 91 20V Quattro sedan that has just the craziest leak.
I've noticed oil seeping into the driver's side footwell.  Or at least I
think it's oil.

The liquid is quite greasy, liquid and brownish in colour.  The amount of
leak varies with the distance that I drive.  There doesn't seem to be an
appreciable loss in oil levels for the engine, but I'm not sure how to
check the other lubricant levels.

Any help would be appreciated.
