V8Q/200Q/ETC: Dual Antenna Cabling
Well, I was noticing that while the AM was working on the V8 when I got it
back from the dealer (2 MORE days this time on the airbag recall!) the FM
reception did not seem to be as good as it had been before. I had mentioned
to them that I noticed the AM reception went away after the last time they
had it and they said they had fixed it. Well, I pulled the radio and found
that all they did was to swap the front and rear antenna connections on the
radio ... :( I checked the rear antenna amp and it is getting power. I
measured an open circuit between the antenna amp and the connector that
plugs into the radio. While it may be true that the wire has broken, I'm
thinking that there is likely to be a connector somewhere in the cable to
allow the CD player to be attached ... and this connector is disconnected.
Has anyone BTDT? Is there a connector in the line somewhere? If so, where
is it? I'd hate to have to take the console apart and then find it is
somewhere behind the rear seat or something. Many TIA!

BTW, I talked to my buddy in the parts department to get the scoop on what
had happened ... others with V8's that are yet to have the airbag recall
done might want to take note. He told me that when all was said and done
the original module that was in the kit for the car was the correct one ...
it was just mounted in a place that required the dash be removed. I
originally had the car in around Thanksgiving (for 2 days) and the Audi area
rep said they needed a different module ... which had to come from Germany.
When it came in I scheduled the second appointment. I still don't know all
the details, but I did look in the V8 service fiche that I have ... and it
pretty clearly showed the module was mounted behind the dash. If you do
take your car in, make sure that the service folks have RTFM and keep in
regular touch with them ... reminding them that if they can't find it "in
the usual place" that they should look it up in the manual. - SLB
