Ron,

    You may be already aware of this but the central-locking system for
the 4000 works off of vacuum with a time-out on the pump.  I think the
pump is in the trunk under the spare tire.  If you have any kind of a
leak in the system the pump may time-out before it completes the
locking/unlocking process.  Have you checked for vacuum leaks?  That's a
good place to start.  BTW, my brother has a Bently manual for the 4000.
I can scan and send you information on the central-locking if you like.
