Subject: Brake light problem on urq

Q-listers,

Just a question for anyone who may have a little advice. My urq has
recently started blowing the brake light fuse intermittently. The brakes

lights work fine and the rear lights are properly grounded (even with
aux. strap). I checked the continuity and it appears to be fine, as well

as the rear connections at the lights. Also, there is virtually no signs

of corrosion at the rear circuit boards. I even replaced the brake
switch with an extra one.

The problem appears to be a large draw occasionally when the brakes are
first actuated. Ideas???

Any help would be appreciated as it was a little disconcerning driving
home in the blowing snow waiting for the brake lights to go out with
that semi behind me.

Scott, my UrQ had this problem for a year, plus it can screw up the
cruise control which grounds through the brake lights for safety. Take a
look under your dash near the steering column. The "athletic tape"
wiring loom that contains the brake wires after they leave the pedal
switches, rubbed on the steering column and would occasional ground out
on the steel shaft. The rubbing was not evident upon a quick galnce as
it affected the back side of the wires. I'd look here. Now if I could
solve my poor connection problem at the MAS connector at the left rear
tail light (my turn signals are dim and the ground's OK) HTH.
