Subject: Another Cold Start Problem!
My 87 5KTQ has been failing to start recently.. at least the problem is
pretty consistent:
1) Start car (engine cold, air temp = 20 deg. F) STARTS & RUNS FINE
2) Drive car for about 10 min, temp gauge reaches 1/4 mark (below half)
3) Shut car off
4) wait 1 hour
5) Attempt to start car - car sputters & coughs like it wants to start, but
won't "catch"
Sounds much like my 5KCSTQ that needed new molded rubber hoses (don't know
what they're called or do) under and behind turbo housing. As usual,
unique shapes/connector sizes meant buying from the expensive source (and,
of course, waiting a couple weeks for delivery). Because of variances from
model to model and, possibly within model years, take the original in to
get correct replacement. Hoses look good, but if you check carefully, they
either don't seal or have cracks on the underside.
