IME, this may be one place where the generic drawing shows a part that is
quite different in reality than the one in the diagram (I've seen the same
on coolant hoses). There may be an arrow on the fiche that points to a
rubber plug with a wire, but when you order the part you get a plug. My
1978 Audi Fox came with a removable rubber plug with the wire bale ... and
I'm sure that all of the other cars I own that have the CIS-based system
have had the plugs drilled out and the hole left open. I bought a
replacement rubber plug for the Fox to use in the ur-q. It may actually be
that the hole diameter is increased on the cars with the plug as I found the
Fox plug would fit, but it was a bit loose on the QTC. AAMOF I was showing
the car off after work one day and did the same thing, pushed the plug in
too far ... and when I attempted to pull the plug out all I got was the wire
... it's always great to have to tear your car apart in situations like that
(the lower airbox on the QTC is cast metal and bolted in place so you need
to get out the tools!).

I managed to find a copy of the fiche for the old Fox at Carlsen ... I'll
look it up and see how the number jives with the ones that Phil quates ...
