Well I had to respond to this one.
I am the Howard that Jason keeps referring to.

Jason,

It is going to cost the same to keep a quattro on the road as it is to keep
your front wheel car, as the quattro system is bullet proof and requires
little maintenance.
You should replace your differential fluid prolly every 100k miles and lube
the driveshaft every 7500 miles and that's it. Not a bad trade off for a car
that handles 100% better than the FWD 200 that you have. As for the 1991 20v
Turbo Quattro this is going to be the biggest bang for the buck and moddable.
The A4's are sweet and if you can actually afford an A4 (I can't) the 1.8
turbo model can be modded to kick some butt over the 2.8 6 cylinder model.
A4's handle awesome and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. As for power
there is such thing as too much power and the A4 can handle every bit of it's
power. In my opinion you've got that right now with your intended acceleration
and front wheel drive. It may be fast but can it handle it's power? I think
not.
Anyways, do yourself a favor and sell that FWD car to some lazy driver and go
out and buy yourself a real car, a quattro. You've been provided a lot of
information from a lot of knowledgable listers, so go out and do the logical
thing and put a 4 sale sign on your car today. Then go out and score a quattro
and write to us all on how much you love your quattro and how you are really
glad we talked you into it.
