On the Audi 90, (88-89 vintage anyway) this is not the case. The fuel tank
is mounted upright against the forward wall of the trunk (actually it IS the
forward wall of the trunk). The ski boot cutout is there, but it would open
directly into the top third of the fuel tank. The quattro might be
different (different size fuel tank, and different configuration due to the
rear drivetrain) but I'd check it out thoroughly before I'd go hacking any
interior trim or trunk carpet.

Ahem, Actually it's not that bad. BTDT on a 89 100. Cost me $25.-
for the components at the local boneyard. Which was the bag in it's frame
ready to bolt in.

If your backseat has the flip down armrest your halfway there.

You will need to slit the seems on the back of the seat where the armrest
fit's into. Not as bad as it sounds.

Open the trunk and pull the carpet down from the backseat panel.

On my 89 100 the cutout was there, you just needed to snip 4 tabs off and
wallah. Ski access hole.

If anybody wants the "Gory Details", it's been awhile but I could check out
somebodies car and jar my memory a bit :-)
