Re: 88 80q Catalytic Converter

If your catalytic converter is clogged, you will get little high-end power and
bad gas mileage. As it gets worse and worse, eventually the car won't even
start (Been there). Test? If you are having these symptoms, and you can't think
of anything else that it could be, take the catalytic converter off and
visually inspect it/ blow through it, etc. I once had one that was so blocked
that I couldn't even blow through it. If it's obvious that it's blocked, then
you can hollow it out by taking a pipe and ramming it through until you get all
of the mesh out. Put it back on the car- if this fixes the problem, then you
need a new cat. They're expensive, so I wouldn't hollow it out unless you're
pretty darn sure it's the problem. Personally, I just leave them hollowed, but
that's because I live in the middle of nowhere. I also feel better about
leaving them hollowed because it creates less ozone-reducing pollution. Cats
are just to cut down on particulates, which isn't a problem here. Also, I get
more power and better gas mileage this way.
