Lubricant on spark plug wires

I had my other vehicle (read non-Audi) in for a major service the other day
and I let the shop change the plugs. I usually do it myself, but it is next
to impossible to change all the plugs on this one, so I let them do it.
Anyway, ever since then the vehicle does not accelerate correctly and makes
a light clicking sound under loaded acceleration. Being an NA motor, and
since nothing else was done that affects the motor, I have been thinking the
plugs are the problem as I used Bosch Platinum from a local parts store and
was thinking I ended up with the "cheap Bosch" I've heard of before.
Anyway, I got some OE plugs and, upon taking the boots off the old plugs
noticed that there was a lubricant all over the top of the plug and in the
boot. I've heard of people doing that before I think to ward off moisture
or something, but I, personally, have never used anything I've just always
left things dry under the plug boot and on the plug. So, any BTDTs with
whatever lubricant they put on the new plugs? Is it possible that this
lubricant is ruining or at least causing problems between the boot and the
plug? I haven't changed the plugs as I'm thinking maybe the plugs are ok
and this lubricant is the problem. Any ideas?
Much appreciated,
Samuel
