Can you turn it with a wrench or socket?  at least if it is a little
loose you might be able to work it out.  Those things really do s*ck.  I
once r/r'd my alternator about 5 times in two days - mostly due to a
"bad out of the box" voltage regulator, I kept thinking I had screwed up
my alt by dis- and re-assembling it.  It never got any easier.  Pity
there isn't an access hole or two in the front frame...
