Re: Interesting Problem with Cruise Control
jaggi,
Barring any vacuum leak problems you might have a problem with your
turning signal stalk/cruise control switch. A family members car had the
same problem and to fix it he replaced the turning signal stalk. From what
I gathered when he ordered the part it is a fairly common problem on the
older Audis. The problem is with the the wiring that runs through the
turning signal stalk. Repetitive movement of the wires at the fulcrum point
at the base of the stalk causes the wires over time to fatigue and can cause
intermittent problems with the cruise. It could also be your switch on the
end of the stalk. In either event it can be solved by replacement of the
stalk. I believe the new replacment part was around $100+. We shotgunned
the repair by replacing the stalk. It fixed the problem. You may be able
to fix the present stalkand wiring if you are handy with tools. Your
problem could also be something completely different... Good Luck on the
project and keep the list updated to your final resolution.
Regards
Mark
