I would hope that people aren't reading too much into this.  The degraded
brake performance is easily remedied by a quick stab of the brakes when
starting out, and I haven't noticed it re-appearing until the car sits for
a while.  The brakes work well the rest of the time, and I certainly
prefer the A4s brakes to other cars I drove.  Unless someone can
demonstrate that this is caused by a defect in the design of the brakes
and/or pads, I'm going to just do a quick brake test before starting out.
Kind of like checking the idiot lights.
