I've never heard a good explanation.  I'm not sure myself from looking at 
them, other than the fact that the "hat" is huge compared to a 
conventional rotor, so maybe the expansion when they get hot is uneven.

I hope you're talking 600/pair here and not each.   I bought them for my 
friend's V8 last summer at less than 275.00 each, at the dealer.
