Re: Valentine versus new Passport

Hey Guys

I am reading the thread and feel I need to add my $.02. I have the new
Passport and I like it alot. I think if money was no object(it is) I would
have bought a Valentine. I had a first generation Passport and I loved it! I
used it primarily on a couple of GSX-R 750 rice rockets I had in the late 80's
and it saved me many tickets. Now the bike has a MUCH smaller radar
signiture, but that has nothing to due with it's detection range, which is
pretty impressive. I used several cheaper detectors that belonged to friends
or were purchased for me as gifts. These included the original Fuzzbuster
("sucked worse than anything has ever sucked before"), a BEL, and some other
solar powered Japanese junk. Once the fuzzbuster actually went off after we
passed a cop with continuous transmit X-band. The passport might detect this
1/2 mile away or more. I live in PA and for me the threat is Ka-band. Its
not too bad if a younger guy has it, they just broadcast so you detect all the
vehicles he illuminates up ahead. The real threat is a VERY experiienced H/P
officer who passed 99% of all the vehicles until he visually spots one going
WAY over the speed limit and then waits until the last second to illuminate
you. He catchs you almost every time. But if you travel in daylight hours
and are very observant and constantly scan for them you might visually detect
them as they're raising the radar gun and get just enough of a braking window
to slip by without a ticket. Happened to me in Nov 98 on I-81 N just of I-80.
I traveling about 110. I see him, he sees me. I slam on brakes as he raises
gun. Full Ka alert, like battle stations. I look at speedo, then look at him
as I pass. 73 in a 65, no ticket, no chasen nothing. I might have been
lucky, but I'll say observant because if I was riding the detector, I'd have
had a ticket. No doubt. My point of all the B.S. is I love the Passport but
don't expect to just blaze along without any concerns.
