Rather than reference the brake pedal, adjust so you have as much travel as
possible w/o bottoming. Shorten the rod until you have about 2" (5 cm) of
free play. Then slowly lengthen the rod while checking for evidence of
bottoming (firewall flexes, etc). Or, slowly lengthen the rod until you can
shift OK; leave a little slack if it can be done, as it were. If the rod is
too long, the piston in the MC will bottom, and eventually you'll break the
MC off of the firewall.
