The S.C.C.A. is often referred to as the "Secret Car Club of America" and
there appears to be some justification for this. In my experience, though,
the reason it's so difficult to get information about events is because they
are organized by local clubs under the umbrella of the national organization
and it's up to each club to promote them as well as they can with their own
limited resources. Needless to say, this usually isn't much...
The only reason to join the S.C.C.A. is to race in their events. Locally,
however, it's possible to compete at their autocross events without belonging
to the club but you have to pay a higher entry fee. Since this works out to a
few bucks less per year than belonging to the club and I have no plans to
compete on the national level for now, I let my membership lapse. I do
sometimes miss Sportscar each month (or the classified ads, anyway), though.
