225's on 7" wheels?
I drive a 89 200tq with H+R/Boge TurboGas suspension, and A8 16x7 wheels
with 205/55-16 tires, the rear fenders have been flared.
When the time comes to replace my current tires, I would like to put
wider rubber on. However, I don't think I want to spend money on wider
wheels (I am trying to afford coilovers!). The logical choice would
seem to be 225/50-16's all around, but I am wary of putting 225's on 7"
wheels, as I would prefer 7.5 or 8. On the other hand, I have used
225/50-15's R-compound tires on my Fuch alloys (15x7), and have found
the result acceptable. Those tires have stiffer construction though,
and I'm not sure how this would work with street tires.
My guess with 225's on the A8 wheels, I would experience:
Negative:
More vague steering feel
less sharp turn-in
Neutral:
Somewhat softer ride
Positive:
somewhat higher absolute grip
Comments? Suggestions?
Thanks
