Audi Concert Bose question (non-quattro)

I know many of us would rather have a sound system or head unit other than
factory.  Nevertheless, I'd like to know if anyone has succeeded in using a
Bose head unit with separate amplifiers and speakers of non-original source.
I promised to investigate this for a friend who has a new A3 with no radio
(that's how Audis come standard here), and I can aquire the concert-Bose
head unit he wants.  I somehow recall that this will not be easy.

Any BTDT's??
